BIOGRAPHY
Tamara Marie Kucheran is a multi-award-winning set and costume designer who centers her practice in an atmosphere of collaboration, trust, and respect with a focus on supporting performers to do their best work.
She has had the privilege of collaborating with some of the industry’s top theatre creators on stages both large and small across Canada, including at the Shaw Festival and the Stratford Festival.
Tamara is a recipient of the prestigious Virginia and Myrtle Cooper Award in Costume Design (2017). Other awards include a Robert Merritt Award for Outstanding Costume Design (nomination for Outstanding Set Design), a Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Costume Design (multiple nominations for Set and Costume), a Tyrone Guthrie Award (Stratford Festival), and the Ian and Molly Lindsay Young Design Fellowship (Stratford Festival).
Tamara is an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University's Fountain School of Performing Arts where she teaches set & costume design. Her other teaching credits include Sessional, Lecturer, and Guest Artist Instructor positions at The National Theatre School of Canada, the University of Victoria, the University of Winnipeg, Off the Wall Stratford Artists Alliance, and Michigan State University.
Tamara holds a BFA with Distinction from the University of Victoria, an MA in Theatre from the University of Guelph, and is a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada.
